This year, we have lost some of the great men and women of our time. The death of Glenn Fey, Harper Lee, Prince, David Bowie, and Merle Haggard (to name a few) hit us all hard. These literary and musical influencers shaped and expressed generations. Indeed, there is no denying the power of the written and spoken word.
At Charity Fundraising, we always speak to the charity auction items that have a “priceless value.” There are things in this life that cannot be bought; only remembered – things that cannot be priced; only prized.
Whether it was the musical poets who internalized the angst of the time like Glenn Fey and Don Henley’s worldwide sensation “Hotel California,” or Harper Lee’s book that decried prejudice, it is through the lives and work of these heralds that spoke to and for the hearts of the people of their time. Through them, their audience could see their circumstances more clearly and express themselves more deeply.
These influencers cannot be contained in their work or in memorabilia, but they can be remembered for the impact they have had on our lives and the lives of others.
